For the past three seasons, the Nets and attendees like Simon Garber have been honoring military personnel and first responders during games in a program called Brooklyn Nets Heroes. Recent honorees include:
Carolyn Petschler, a petty officer, who served as a cryptologic communications operator. She has logged more than 1,300 mission flight hours. Achieving the rank of colonel, Rob Barnes served in the U.S. Army for more than 26 years. He was deployed in Operation Desert Shield and Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Andrew Moreno, a staff sergeant, has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan during his service in U.S. Army. He continues work today as a recruiter. Eric Cave, a Brooklyn native, is a retired sergeant. During his 27-year career in the military, he was deployed on three separate combat tours.
